banana republic

It's exam time. Right now is about 2 am... I'm still studying. Actually I've just finished my paper. I went out of the room and saw a guy wearing a T-shirt that says "Banana Republic". I caught myself thinking about where this republic is. Probably somewhere in central America... Well and this is not the first time when I saw Banana Republic on a T-shirt and started thinking about location of this country...

Although it's just probably in the mall or somewhere in downtown of a big city...

It's just a clothing line/clothing company owned by Gap. It's a name brand, like Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY or your favorite, FUBU.

I know... that's why I've mentioned mall and downtown of a big city...

But this is not the first time what I was thinking about this republic and its geographical location.

As I understand, the actual meaning of the term banana republic is (thanks to wikipedia):
"country in Latin America with unstable government, and with strong dependency on agricultural products. This term was originally used by O.Henry regarding to Honduras".

In fact, the term oil-n-gas republic can be used for some other well-known countries (except for the fact that government there is extremely stable).

Thank Nik!

That helps. Funny name for a brand.
